Turn Off Screen Rotation in iPad – Screen Rotation Lock Switch

iPad has just been launched and apple reported 300,000 iPad’s sold already in single day, this is really awesome number, as per the user reviews they are found it to be much faster than iPhone or nexus one.

Screen Rotation Locking in iPad is very simple as there is screen rotation lock toggle button which allows you to turn off and on the screen rotation.

This screen lock button is on the right top side of the iPad, just above the volume button.

The supposedly “screen lock” button on my iPad that I purchased last week only mutes the volume. Are there different models?

I’m sending this from my ipad so i’m absolutely certain: with me, it is a mute switch… It still rotates afterwards.

This is completely incorrect. To Unlock the screen rotation push the “home” button quickly twice. Swipe left to right until the controls are shown and on the far left will be a virtual button to unlock rotation. This view also allows you to close any apps that are running but you are not using, therefore improving battery life. Just push on the app icon until it wiggles and then touch the small x on the upper corner to quit out of the app.

Thank you, thank you. I thought that I was losing my mind when trying to use the switch which definitely did not control the lock!

i did what CANYC said, and it worked…but why is the button on the side just a mute button? Is there a way to make it a screen rotation lock/unlock button?

If you go to the Settings icon, under the “General” tab, you can set the button to either function for screen lock or muting.

I have the same problem with my rotation lock, it used to lock the rotation but now only mutes it. You might have this same problem, most likely because u have the updated version of the iPad. You might be able to change the slide switch back to the rotation lock by going into general settings and switching it, however you might not be able to do this, as i cannot either. But worry not because all you have to do is what CANYC said.
