Sony DSC-RX100 Launched In India- Price, Features, Pictures, Hands On Review Video

by Rohit on August 23, 2012

Sony India has launched its compact Cybershot professional quality camera  which is easy to fit in a pocket, has a large sensor which is almost 4 times larger than a normal point and shoot and is quite fast in performance in back-to-back clicking. All these features make the Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100 quite unique, which is the major USPs of this digital camera. Priced at Rs. 34990 in India, the pricing may seem a bit steep, but with the performance and picture quality it offers in this compact form factor, makes it one of its kind in the segment. Sony is not looking at mass segment with this product in India however it is targeting the customers who want high picture quality without the hassles of carrying a full size DSLR.

Interestingly, the packaging of the camera is one thing which impressed me a lot. You can see the above and below picture to compare how the camera looks when its power on (above pictures) and when its powered off (below picture). The compact package just fits the pocket very easy. It’s a metallic build camera and does feel very solid and dense. Although its very compact in size, yet it weighs about 240 gram which gives a feeling of solid metallic material used to build which inspires confidence.

Sony DSC-RX100 Features

One of the most unique feature in terms of usability of the RX100 is the control ring which is given around the lens which is used in multi-functional ways and adjusts different settings in different function modes.

The large 1 inch sensor which captures more details and delivers effective 20 Mega pixels captures good details. To make it more complete, the F1.8 Carl Zeiss lens with special coatings and highly effective image stabilization make it a potent package.

Is it worth replacing entry series DSLR with this Compact camera? As price seems to be same as many entry level DSLR offered by Nikon & canon?
