by Rohit on July 12, 2011

We recently reviewed the newly released dual core processor phone Samsung Galaxy S II Android Smartphone for a couple of weeks. In this article we will share our views about the phone, our first impressions, build quality, voice clarity, picture and music quality, phone performance, applications support etc. in detail.

We did the review in parts, and this time me [Abhishek] and Rohit both have tested Samsung Galaxy S 2 we both may have some different opinions about different aspects of the phone, but in total we both liked this amazing super fast android phone from samsung.

Samsung Galaxy S 2 Review Opinion [Abhishek]

To start I must say that Samsung galaxy s 2 is the fastest android phone I have reviewed till now, with 4.3" 16M-color Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen of WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) resolution which is so bright, sharp and clear that it really catches anyone attention when its in your hands. It so responsive and much better than any other android phone in handling multiple running applications in the background still be very responsive to touch and taps on the screen

OS, Processor

It runs the latest version of android 2.3.3 with nicely designed Touch wiz UI 4.0 from samsung which makes important options easy to access to a normal non geeky users and provide easy accessibility in configuration for phone options and features which useful to the user. The 1.2 GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 CPU, Mali-400MP GPU, Exynos chipset, 1GB of RAM processor on phone makes the phone blazingly fast.

We also ran a benchmark test of samsung galaxy s 2 to compare it with other android phones, It outranks most of the other android phones in the same range. Below is the screenshot of the results,

It has a 8 MP wide-angle lens autofocus camera with LED flash, face, smile and blink detection feature, the picture quality is great when you focus properly, we did took some macro shots and other pictures during our review. Previewing images you shot or any other photos is such a nice smooth experience on the big size capacitive touch screen. Overall picture quality is almost as good as your digital camera. It also has a 2 megapixel front camera which is good for video calling and for taking self portraits too, you can easily flip in between rear or front camera from the default camera app on the phone.

Form Factor

Instead of great hardware, samsung galaxy s 2 is very light in hands, it weights around 116 grams with thinner than a centimeter, and its more thinner than even iphone 4 it around only 8.5mm in thickness which makes it’s the most thinner smart phone available in market, I liked the form factor of the phone, and after using it for a week or more I felt my iphone 4 is really heavy as compared to samsung galaxy s 2, and when it comes samsung galaxy s 2 sleekness, due to its thinnest form factory you can easily slide in and out from jeans pocket.

Video Recording

Video recording is real fun on samsung galaxy s 2 is real fun as it records the sharp and clear 1080p HD video recording at 30 frame per second which is good and much clear, however there was one thing I did not liked while video recording it does not focus to small objects and text while doing video recording. We did recorded a sample video, you can watch the same in the video below we recommend you watch it at the highest resolution possible, check out the sample recorded video below.

It also has some great features on the software part which includes some nice gestures built into the phone which lets you do a large number of things from zooming a photo, making the phone silent etc, you can watch the features video tour below to more about all these features in samsung galaxy s 2

We also did a long video review which was later split into parts, first half of the video review is done by Rohit and later half is me. Rohit focused more on the hardware and I focused more on the software part of samsung galaxy s 2

Samsung Galaxy S Review Opinion [ Rohit Khurana ]

Samsung Galaxy S 2 doesn’t only have impressive specifications, but a very impressive feel as well. When I first opened the box, I was simply impressed with the quality of the phone. The device comes neatly packed in the box with a leather pouch in the box only which makes it easy to carry.

First thing which impressed me was the large display, sleek form factor and light weight. The display is really pleasing to eyes and is very life like. The images are sharp and crisp on its 480×800 pixel 3.2 inch super AMOLED screen. The screen left me stunned for a while. The build quality of the phone is also very nice with good quality of material used in the phone. The sound quality, camera picture quality, video recording quality are all up to the mark. The features like motion zoom and multiple home screen with widgets make it a very fun and easy to use phone.

One downside though which I feel is that phone feels too light for its form factor. I use an iPhone and it feels like a solid rock in the hand, while the feel of Galaxy S II is too light besides being larger than the iPhone, which is quite surprising. It may not actually be a downsize and people like their gadgets to be sleek and light, but it may give a kind of weird feeling if its too light. Apart from this small factor, I find the S II to be a very impressive, blazing fast and very easy to use phone with host of features explained in the remaining part of this article.

Conclusion Review & Price Of Samsung Galaxy S 2

There is very few things not to like about Samsung Galaxy S 2, It’s astonishingly fast, with a gorgeous display, a good camera and a winning operating system. It’s somehow all crammed into a case so slim and light it seems to break the laws of conservation of energy.

But when it comes to price it might cost little bit heavy on your pocket at an MRP 32,000 INR, you may get it for a lesser price, enquire the near by mobile phone dealer for a better price. The features and hardware you get it this price in this device is highly justifying as per its cost.
