by Rohit on July 9, 2012

Huawei India has launched its fully loaded smartphone Huawei Honor in India sometime back at an affordable price tag of close to Rs. 20,000 with high end features and special services offered with new range of Huawei devices like special cloud service, data based messaging service to name a few. In this article, I will share my first hand user review of the Honor U8860 Android smartphone with you.

Hardware Review

Talking of the hardware and build quality of the Huawei Honor U6680, the build is decent with the phone feeling quite compact as well as sturdy in hand. The looks of the Honor are not glossy of flashy, rather its simple and elegant with clean design elements. There is no use of chrome however the quality of the plastics seems to strong and long lasting.

Talking of the hardware specifications, the highlights include compact dimensions of 122mm x 61 mm x 11 mm with weight of 140 gm. It has a TFT touch screen of 480×854 pixels which is 4 inch in size diagonally. In rear world, the display is quite sharp and bright even in the bright outdoor conditions.

It has an internal memory of 4GB and supports external microSD card of up to 32 GB. Talking of the performance, it has a single core 1.4 Ghz snapdragon processor and 512 MB of RAM which gives Honor decent speed without any noticeable lag even on running multiple applications. It has an Adreno 205 GPU for improved gaming and graphics performance.

It has an 8MP rear camera with flash and does support 720p video recording at 30 FSP with a VGA front camera for video chatting. The most appealing part of the Honor is its large 1900 mAh battery with smart power management software which gives it very high battery life, it delivers highest real world battery life among the android smartphones I have tested.

Software & User Interface Review

Talking of the software, it runs the Android 2.3 gingerbread which can be upgraded to ICS 4.0 version. The user interface has been designed in a very clean and easy to use fashion with multiple options to unlock the phone to directly access 4 different kind of apps right after unlock.

There is a social media feature called Streams where in you can access your twitter, facebook and other social updates on one screen. There are special Cloud+ drive feature where you can save all kind including as minute details as the alarm settings.

The browser experience and other software experience is as good as any other android phone. We tested the phone on 2.3 Gingerbread and the phone seemed quite responsive and most impressive part was the battery life which lasted 2 to 3 days on moderate usage and 1.5 days on heavy usage (without gaming).

Box Contents

  • Huawei U8860 Phone
  • Battery
  • USB Cable
  • USB travel Charger
  • Stereo headset
  • Instruction manuals

Pros

  • Impressive battery life
  • Good performance
  • Good display quality
  • Backup service
  • Nice optimization of user interface
  • Quick shortcuts on unlock screen

Cons

  • Typing maybe annoying initially especially in portrait mode
  • Average picture quality though camera
  • Looks too simple

Conclusion

All in all Honor is a value for money phone in the price segment but in the price segment close to Rs. 20,000 there are many choices available which make solid competitors. If you are ok with simple looks and you are a heavy user, the battery life of the Honor makes up for all its shortcomings.
