Dell Vostro V130 Detailed User Review [Pictures, Features & Specs]

by Rohit on July 26, 2011

We recently reviewed one of the very sleek professional series laptop from Dell, the Dell Vostro V130 for over two weeks or so. In this post we will share our experiences with Dell Vostro V130, the technical specifications, the good and bad points about the laptop.

Dell Vostro V130 First Impressions

First impression of Dell Vostro is very pleasing for a corporate machine. We consider that Vostro series is not for Gaming enthusiasts and graphics designers. As the Vostro V130 is built to deliver good performance in a compact from factor without compromising on the computing capabilities it does the job well. The booting times are fast and laptop is well cooled and fast enough for regular task like web browsing, running MS office applications etc.

The light weight form factor and heating vents at rear make it easy to use on lap while you travel. It does not produce oodles of heat to make you uncomfortable. The keyboard and the build quality is also quite robust. The metallic build and hinges give a confidence of having a robust computing laptop machine.

There are some downsides as well. First is that the graphics performance is quite average and its has been kept deliberately low to keep the laptop running cool and quiet with focus on corporate users. Also the battery life is just about 2 hours which is good enough for an office use, but for outdoors or long travel, it is quite insufficient without an extended battery or external power source. The performance of the laptop is not top notch as well as it has been designed to do a moderate level of computing and it does that very well.

We used the laptop as primary machine for machine for around 3-4 days at this time we decided to test all the aspects of the laptop from design, cooling, form factor, portability, Keyboard & Touchpad, Performance, Battery Backup,  Build Quality etc. Read further to read about all these features and points mentioned below.

Dell Vostro v130 is very preciously designed to be lightweight, easy to to carry in hands to due to its slim factor.  Its thin with dimensions 13 x 9.1 x 0.7 inches and weighing a mere 3.6 pounds. The entire body was matte finish neither surface shows fingerprints, and the entire look is quite classy.

The keyboard feels very nice on hands and with keys which does not  require much pressure to use them and on the other hand they feel very rigid.

The hinges are so strong which hold the screen tight and we tried closing the lid at different speeds many times and it was very smooth without any improper sound coming

The display was very vibrant and much clear, and it gives a nice feel of widescreen when you opt for the 13 inch dell vostro v130

Heat dissipation and cooling is fairly maintained with all the heat vents on the backside on laptop base so you don’t feel much heat on the base.

It comes with core i3 processor which makes it powerful enough to do all the tasks, as far as the performance is concerned we tried editing some document while running a movie in another maximized windows and test went pretty fine and we were easily able to do both the heavy end processing task on dell Vostro v130 nicely.

Even if this laptop is pretty small we find the touchpad and keyboard both fairly large enough to hold all types of hands and thick fingers too, the touchpad was feels nice and responsive and keyboard keys were large enough and properly spaced and adaptive for speed typing.

Just like other laptop it does have all the indicators which indicate about the battery status, wifi on off and things like capslock on etc and these indications looks quite nice and very less annoying to eyes.

It is no doubt one of the slimmest laptop available as you can see in the image below.

We compared the thickness of Dell Vostro v130 with our macbook pro and both were almost of the same thickness as you can see in the image below.

We did ran some benchmark test to test computational capability, graphics performance and other related tests , you can see the scores in the image below.

We also ran the windows experience index over this machine to find out the windows default score for each of its hardware component, in which it lacked only in some graphics which means this is not a good machine for gaming which makes sense as this laptop is mainly designed for business use.
