If you have an iPhone and you always feel lazy about Synchronizing it because you have to plug it in with the USB cable to sync it, think again. If your phone is jail-broken, you can get away from the USB cable for the sync.

You need to purchase an iPhone app called Wi Fi Sync from Cydia repository, if you have trouble in locating it, just open www.getwifisync.com from your iPhone and it will give you a download link to this iPhone app.

After installing the iPhone app, you need to download Windows or MAC application (from same website mentioned above) to install on your computer with which you sync your iPhone. After this just launch the Application on your computer and your iPhone, both will detect each other provided they are on same Wi Fi network. The application will ask you to pair the phone and computer both on the iPhone and computer. Just follow the simple pairing step and you iPhone will start to sync over Wi Fi without any need to connect it physically via data cable.

• Tethered Jailbreak – When you shutdown your jailbroken iPhone 3GS, or if it runs out of power, you can only turn it on by plugging it into a computer.
• Untethered Jailbreak : When you shutdown a jailbroken iPhone 3GS, or if it runs out of power you can switch it on back with power button.

Step By Step Procedure To Use It

I recently published an article on Enable Tethering On iPhone. After enabling tethering, I tested the iPhone tethering on my Windows Vista laptop with iTunes installed. It worked perfectly fine with the laptop, but when I connected it to the Desktop running Windows 7 without iTunes, the iPhone was not detected as the USB Ethernet adaptor as it did with my laptop.

In this article I will share with you how you can use iPhone tethering on any Windows computer without installing iTunes.

On reading through Whirlpool forums I leant that Apple has some special drivers which allow the iPhone to be used as USB Ethernet Adaptor. These drivers are by default bundled with the iTunes installer. This drivers is also known as the Apple Mobile Device Support (link at the bottom of article).

You can download the Apple Mobile Device Support Drivers which is about 15 MB in size, install it on your windows PC, restart the computer, connect the iPhone to the computer using the USB cable and you are ready to use iPhone tethering without installing full iTunes Setup.

Have you ever wanted to pause the download of iPhone App for some reason? You might want to pause the download if you are leaving from home or office where you use Wifi Connection. You might want to pause it if you are now for any other reason like you don’t want to use the data network or 3G or Wifi etc.

You might also want to pause application download when you are on EDGE / 3G network and want to use some App which needs high speed data transfer like watching YouTube videos , downloading heavy email attachments or some other important work.

I discovered the way of Pausing the application download accidentally when I tapped on an while it was downloading on my iPhone

I have an iPhone 3GS which is bought from US (contract terminated legally) and working on Airtel Network in India. I have jail-broken the phone to unlock it. I have got a data plan for my phone here in India which I use for Internet surfing from iPhone and have a broadband connection at home. Last night my home broadband went bad. I needed Internet on my computer to carry on with my work.

I did a quick google on iPhone to enable tethering on iPhone and  landed on iPhone Help Center which allows to enable tethering by downloading appropriate profiles for your network for your country. So you have to select Country and then Carrier / Network operator name to select the profile to install which will enable tethering on your iPhone.

Open iPhone Help Center from your iPhone Safari browser.When I opened the link to download Mobileconfigs as shown on the page below and browsed to India in country selection, there was only one operator config available, i.e BPL Mobile and Airtel was missing , but I still managed to enable tethering, read more to know how.

Then I saw another option to create a Mobileconfig. This mobile config generator is still in beta version, but helps to create customized tethering mobile configuration for any mobile operator of any country.

To use this MobileConfig generator for your network, click on Moileconfig link seen on screen below:

This will show a screen as seen below which asks for APN for Mobile Internet and username and password. It also asks for APN settings for Visual Voicemail, which you can skip for tethering. But what to enter in APN settings ?

To know the APN network settings, go to iPhone home screen and open

Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network, which will show the screen like one below with your APN settings for Mobile Internet. If you are unable to see the settings, follow this tutorial first – Enable GPRS/EDGE APN Settings on Jailbroken iPhone

Write down the settings on a piece of paper. Go back to the Safari Browser. Type in the GPRS APN on this screen and click the Generate button on this page.

When you press generate, it will ask you to download and install a Profile from help.benm.at. Download and install the profile. And you are almost done

Now the tethering is enabled on your iPhone, you just need to turn it on. To turn it on, go to:

Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering, here you will find option to turn on the tethering.

Now simply connect your iPhone to your computer via Bluetooth or USB data-cable, and it will enable a USB/Bluetooth Ethernet adaptor for iPhone and you can enjoy Internet. Although there is one limitation that you need to have iTunes Installed on the computer you want to use tethering, but there is an alternative to that also, so stay tuned, we will shortly share the trick in coming posts.

Note: You must have data plan subscription on your phone connection. Using iPhone tethering may causes large amount of data transfer, please check your mobile data rates before using tethering to avoid heavy mobile bills. We recommend tethering only when you have unlimited data plan or cheap data plan.

I was at my office and my iPhone data cable was at home. I wanted to copy full resolution pictures from my iPhone to my office Desktop PC.

I could do it using this way  – Send Full Resolution Pictured As Email From My iPhone

But I realized that my office desktop and my iphone are on the same network as my iPhone is connected to same network using WiFi. So I thought “why not  aceed and copy the pictures directly using FTP or SFTP ?”

The idea was fine, and I had already accessed my iPhone using FTP To Enable my GPRS Settings On My iPhone 3Gs

Here is how I managed to copy the photos from iPhone without using any data cable over Wifi.

1. Go to Cydia and install OpenSSH:

2. Download and Install WinSCP client for Windows. Run the client and connect to your iPhone using SFTP over the wifi network. The Host Name will be IP address visible in  Settings > General > Wifi > <Network Name>

username will be “root”  and password will be “alpine” for iPhone 3Gs if you have not changed the iPhone SSH password yet. We recommend to change the default password for safety reasons. See our tutorial – How To Change The Default Password In iPhone To Prevent It Getting Hanged

3. Browse to below path on the iPhone to copy the images:

/private/var/mobile/Media/DCIM/100APPLE

Today I noticed a new app on apple store called SongForYou, the app was quite cool as it allows you to share a record song in your voice and then mail it your friends in simple 3 easy steps – record, listen and mail the recorded voice.

This app was not so costly, it was just 0.99$ but I did not bought this application as I figured out how to do it without any app required to share the recorded songs and voice with my friends and loved ones for free.

Open Voice Memos on your iPhone, and record your song or voice message

After recording test the recording and listen it, After listening the recorded song or voice message, tap the Share button to mail it or send via MMS

Now to mail it tap Email Voice Memo

Now enter the mail id where you want to send the recorded song or voice message with the voice memos app built in in your iphone with firmware 3.0 or greater.

Note: In order to use this simple trick, you would need iphone with 3.0 or greater firmware.

Yes you can see your twitter updates from your friends directly on the lockscreen on your iphone. This is a recently released application found in cydia repository made available by iSpazio

Once installed and setup with a twitter account credentials you will see the twitter updates on your iphone lockscreen

We have heard a lot about AT&T allowing Skype and VOIP calls over 3G network, but looks like it has not been implemented yet.

3G Unrestrictor is a Cydia app for $2.99 which allows limitations of 3G / EDGE network usage for Skype Calls and other VOIP services like voice calls using Fring and other VOIP based apps on the iPhone.

3G Unrestrictor app works by tricking the iPhone into believing that it is on WiFi connection even when its using 3G / EDGE network.  It works on all iPhone models including iPhone 2G,  3G and 3Gs. To use this app you must have firmware version 3.0 or higher.

To install 3G Unrestrictor, go to Cydia and search for “3G unrestrictor”. This app is provided by the BigBoss. Installing this app will enable you to make skype calls, VoIP calls, download apps which are over 10 MB in size, run sling player etc while you are on 3G/EDGE network.

HTC home screen is really fascinating in terms of cool calendar look with date on the shown on the home screen, my self being an iphone user like it and would like to set the same if possible on my iphone lock screen.
