Evernote is one of the best note taking apps for iOS devices, it works with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad – all the iOS devices in the ,market as of now. With time evernote has evolved and added more and more features to it. On March 1, 2011, Evernote released version 4 with a complete redesign for iPhone and iPod Touch devices.

In this post, we will share the new features of Evernote 4 with you.

The new Home Screen and Snippet View Feature on Evernote 4

The first thing you will notice is that Evernote now supports unified browsing and note creation in the application’s new home screen. The notes list is now shown in Snippet View. This view maximizes the amount of information that is presented in a small amount of space. If a note is text only, then the app will show the title of the note and as much text as will fit into the snippet. If the note only contains an image, then the slice of the image is taken and presented full width. If the note has a mix of text and other forms of content, then the user sees the title, some text and a thumbnail. This means that the user will get more at a glance than ever, in many cases allowing them to skip opening the note entirely.

When you tap the big plus, they are presented with a split screen. The top half is their standard text entry area. The lower half lets them attach images and snapshots, record 90 minutes of audio, assign notebooks and tags and even sets the users location. The user can now attach multiple items to a single note. So, if users are sitting in a meeting or lecture, they can have notes, record audio and a whiteboard snapshot all in a single note.

To create a note on the audio recorder: tap once to start recording, tap again to stop and attach the recorded audio to the note. Tapping a third time will start a new recording, which will become a second attachment.

Removing attachments

To remove an attachment, tap on the paperclip icon. This will show the attachment screen. To remove, tap edit and tap the red circle. The user can also swipe across the item.

Selecting multiple camera roll images at once

When adding images from the Camera roll, the user can choose to attach multiple images to a single note or create a note per image. To select multiple notes, tap on the arrow in the lower left corner of the Camera Roll note screen. If the user decides to make multiple notes, the title, notebook and tag settings associated with the note they are creating will be automatically be applied to all of the new image notes.

Assigning notebook, tag and location

The top row of buttons lets the user create and assign a notebook and tag their note. The location button is a convenient way to double-check their current location or modify (or even delete) the note’s location information.

Many users have asked for a way to view a single notebook at a time. Now, they can. Both notebooks and tags are options along the lower tab bar. The user can select the notebook or tag what they wish to view and that’s all they’ll see.

Resource views Feature on Evernote 4

The new Resource Views will cure the user. When the list is open, tap on the 2×2 box icon in the top right corner. All of the Resource Views relate to the current note list, so if the user is filtering by a specific notebook, then only those notes will show up.

• Image view: This view displays all the images from all the notes. Tap on an image and the note will open.
• Attachment view: This view displays a list of all the attached items (excluding images) contained in the notes.
• Map view: This view drops pins on a map for all notes with geo-location information. Tap the compass icon to find notes near your current location.

Search Feature on Evernote 4

Search now gets its own screen. That’s because all of the users saved searches appear below the search bar. The user can either create a new search or tap on a saved search using a desktop version of Evernote.

A reminder about offline notes and notebooks

As always, Evernote for iPhone supports offline notes and notebooks. For a Free subscriber, any note that they create, view or favorite on the iPhone will be available offline (access Favorites from the Notebooks menu). Evernote Premium subscribers can select entire notebooks to be viewable offline. This option is available from Settings. The user can also upgrade to Evernote Premium right from the app, if they like.

Line2 app for the iPhone that was out there in March, 2010 was believed to shake the mobile industry by its inventor company Toktumi. The facts – “Toktumi spent $100,000 in new server equipment. Expanded, better trained support team. More than 100,000 phone numbers available in inventory.” So the app kept its promise.

For a meager amount of $1, this iPhone app  gives your iPhone a second phone number — a second phone line, complete with its own contacts list, voice mail, and so on. This app enables you to make/receive calls where AT&T’s signal is weak, over the Internet(Wi-Fi,3G). And yes, you can save money on your monthly phone bills.

All said and done, the main highlight of this app is that it turns an iPad or iPod Touch into a Wi-Fi iPhone. And whenever you are not in a hot spot zone, calls go to voicemail, and you get e-mail to let you know. Text messages appear as soon as you are back in a hot spot. You can return the messages and calls at that point.

The new texting feature seems to be great. Text messages(both sides) show up in little cartoon bubbles, same as it appears in the iPhone’s own texting app. However, there’s one thing to watch out for – For the time being, Line2 app does not do picture and video messages, but only text messages. (The company says it is working on it.)

Overall, the lower fee and the unlimited texting make Line2 even more attractive (and further distinguishes it from calling-only programs like Skype)

I was just going through some of the new apps being released on app store, I found this google buzz app for iPhone called Buzzie, this app is not official that means it is not from google, but being made by some independent developer Alberto García Hierro

This google buzz client for iphone is not free, it will cost you 1.99$ but its worth it as it offers a much better interface than the official google buzz web app for iphone.

Note: However the feature I was expecting in this was, if one could post images from camera or photos on iPhone to buzz – its still not there

Team Viewer is an excellent tool for remotely accessing computer. Till now it worked only between computers, but the official iPhone app of TeamViewer has brought a world of possibilities to access your computer from anywhere in the world from your iPhone / iPod Touch.

Imagine you are somewhere out at some place and urgently need to connect to your computer. Or in case you need to help out some of your family member or friend with his/her problem by accessing his/her computer remotely, this app comes very handy in such situation. Now you can simple Remote Desktop onto any computer in this world connected to Internet and running TeamViewer (of course you need credentials for that).

Here is a first hand review which I did with my iPhone and Windows 7 PC.

This is how the main screen looks with

When you connect to your PC using TeamViewer iPhone app, it shows you initial instructions which you can turn on with the toggle  at the bottom of the screen.

The instructions are pretty simple and self explanatory -

• Drag with one finger to move mouse pointer
• Tap one finger for click
• Tap two fingers for a right click
• To drag and drop or resize / move windows, double tap and then hold
• Drag with two fingers to scroll
• Pinch to zoom in or out
• Shake for quick monitor switching

One really nice thing about this app is that it work in both landscape and portrait mode by detecting the motion and rotates automatically.

This is the fist look at the Computer from my iPhone. Looks pretty impressive and clean. The text is very clear and readable, scrolling is very effective and accurate and there is no problem whatsoever with typing, clicking or moving the mouse pointer.

When you tap the keyboard icon, it launches a simple qwerty keyboard, when you tap on another icon second from right on the top in screen below, it opens the additional special keys.

This is how it displays the Function keys, scroll lock, right click key, page up, page down and cursor keys which are necessary for several desktop applications. And also the very useful keys like Esc,Alt, Tab, Windows Key, etc.

This is how it looks on a full zoomed out screen in portrait mode.

The app also allows you to reboot your computer remotely. To so that, just click the tool like button at the bottom on the screen and it will show you options like the screen below.

You can go to settings and check out the session information while a session is on.  The data transferred over network, session time, etc.

To end your session, click the X mark at the bottom left and close the connection. I am totally impressed by this app and love to use it inside my home when I am in other room watching TV or spending time with family and need to access my Computer in the other room to check certain stuff.

The only and major limitation I find is that this app does not work on 3G / EDGE network and requires an Wi-Fi connection. If you have a jail-broken iPhone, you can overcome this restriction by using 3G Unrestrictor tool we reviewed earlier.

TigerText is a free application for iPhone and iPod Touch which allows you to send the sms messages in such a way that, sent message can auto delete itself once its read by the recipient.

How This Work ?

Whenever you send a regular text message, you sent it from your phone and its routed through a server and then delivered to the recipient’s phone. The message you send will live on the receiver’s phone until the recipient decides to delete it. The text message will also reside on the cell phone company’s server for an unlimited amount of time.

TigerText is different because, even though it looks and feels identical to a normal text message, the content of your message is never sent to the recipient’s phone and you control when the message is deleted from our server so you control the lifespan of the message.

What Does Delete On Read Mean ?

“Delete on Read” indicates a message will be deleted 1 minute after the receiver opens the message. When a message is sent with “Delete on Read” as soon as the recipient opens the message a countdown clock begins at 59 seconds. When the clock reaches 0 the message is deleted from the server and therefore does not exist on the recipient’s phone anymore. Please note that if a message is sent with “Delete on Read” but is not opened prior to the expiration of the Text Lifespan, the message will no longer exist and therefore not be read 

Do You Need To Pay For The Messages ?

TigerText is free to try (100 messages sent over 15 days) and it’s always free to read messages. iPhone users who want to send messages pay simply $1.49 per 250 messages sent per month or $2.49 a month for unlimited messages. Blackberry and Droid will be priced in a similar fashion.
